Maintaining a Corrosion Free Mill With Purafil

Purafil can provide peace of mind at every step in your journey to controlling the threat of corrosion in your facilities. Avoid unexpected downtime, reduce maintenance costs and extend the lifespan of your equipment with a tailored plan by Purafil.

1. Diagnose

Purafil provides specially prepared Corrosion Coupons for critical operating environments. The rate of corrosion buildup on the coupon indicates the environment’s severity level – G1, G2, G3, or GX. Purafil performs this service as a diagnostic tool to determine the types and levels of contaminants in various areas of your facility.

4. Monitoring

Ensure your Purafil solution is operating at 100% efficiency and take action quickly if new problems arise. Purafil’s OnGuard® Monitor helps protect your equipment by measuring and transmitting the temperature, humidity, and the level of corrosion in your facility, allowing for action to be taken before problems develop. The OnGuard can transmit real-time data to your SCADA system via a 4-20 mA output signal, and is accessible over ethernet.

2. Custom Solution

Our air quality experts design and supervise the installation of the right solution to meet the needs of your facility. This includes working with our lab to determine the best filtration media (Such as PuraCarb®) to address the unique corrosive gases in your environment, and our engineers to properly size the filtration equipment and seal the space, ensuring G1 corrosion free air.

3. Analysis

Media Life Analysis: Provided as a complimentary service, Purafil’s lab analyzes media samples from your air scrubber to determine the remaining service life. You can then schedule regular filter replacements to ensure your electronics are not exposed to corrosion and that you are not performing unnecessary maintenance or early replacements.

“Since utilizing Purafil, this critical control room has maintained a corrosion free environment for over 10 consecutive years.” - Paperboard Manufacturer, Macon, Ga.

Eliminate the Threat of Downtime Due to Corrosion

Has your mill ever experienced unexpected downtime due to equipment failure? This could be due to the corrosive gases in your facilities that are released during the production of paper. Electrical equipment isn’t made like it used to be, and due to increasing complexity and RoHS initiatives, is much more vulnerable to the effects of these processes. Purafil can offer assistance at every step, from diagnoses to custom solutions. We offer FREE consultation to ensure that you have the right tools for your specific needs — whether it’s diagnosing and removing the threat of corrosion or simply monitoring an ongoing solution that is already in place.

WHY PURAFIL?

Corrosion Coupons & OnGuard Monitoring

Purafil’s Corrosion Monitoring Solutions include both silver and copper to test air quality. These metals are representative of the equipment in a paper mill and can provide insight into how that equipment is being effected by the surrounding environment. Coupons can be used for initial diagnosis or ongoing monitoring if your risk for corrosion is low. It is important that OnGuard’s are only used for monitoring after a corrosion solution is in place, because corrosion can damage the units as well.

WHY PURAFIL?

Environmental Corrosivity Analysis

In addition to testing, all corrosion monitoring solutions come with a free air quality analysis and results breakdown. With the OnGuard, this analysis happens directly within the unit.

When testing with Corrosion Coupons, after a 30-day testing period, coupons are sent back to our labs — the ONLY corrosive air diagnosis facilities with the ISO 17025:2017 lab accreditation. Our team analyzes the coupons, providing a comprehensive report of the results along with a tailored solution.

All at Your Fingertips: From Registration to Reporting

Purafil’s Corrosion Coupon process is uniquely digital. Once registered in the portal, you will be able to track the life cycle of your coupon as it moves through each step, from placement to reporting. Once analysis is complete, you will be notified and directed to your report.

Pulp and Paper Facilities Turn to Purafil for Reactivity Monitoring

Helping A Paperboard Mill Maintain Full Capacity

A major paperboard and food grade packaging manufacturer headquartered in Georgia was having difficulty identifying and solving an equipment room air quality issue. A critical control room on the wet end of the paper machines continued to indicate a harsh and corrosive ISA “GX” environment that would eventually shut down production. Downtime at this mill can run in excess of $100K per hour. After years of unsuccessful attempts by their previous supplier, Purafil suggested a new solution. By correctly sizing and supervising the installation of a Purafil Tub Scrubber with Puracarb media, and assisting in resolving various construction issues, a clean and sustainable ISA “G1” rating was achieved. By providing a solution to their most difficult filtration problem after others had failed, Purafil became the clean air partner for the remaining control rooms and motor control centers throughout the facility.
